12-Day Rainforest Birding Tour in Madagascar
Day 1: Arrival in Antananarivo – Arrive in Antananarivo, the capital of Madagascar. Overnight at a local hotel.
Day 2: Andasibe-Mantadia National Park – Travel to Andasibe (3 hours). Explore Analamazaotra Reserve for endemic species like the Indri and various Vangas.
Day 3: Mantadia National Park – Full-day birding in Mantadia National Park. Look for the Helmet Vanga and Scaly Ground-Roller.
Day 4: Perinet Reserve – Visit Perinet Reserve so as to see the Red-fronted Coua and Coral-billed Nuthatch Vanga. Night walk for nocturnal species.
Day 5: Ranomafana National Park – Travel to Ranomafana (7 hours). Evening birding around the park entrance.
Day 6: Ranomafana National Park – Full day exploring Ranomafana. Target species include Brown Mesite and Henst’s Goshawk.
Day 7: Vohiparara Marsh – Birding at Vohiparara Marsh, looking for Madagascar Rail and Slender-billed Flufftail.
Day 8: Masoala National Park – Fly to Maroantsetra, then transfer to Masoala National Park. Evening birding along trails.
Day 9: Masoala National Park – Explore Masoala’s rainforest, searching for rare species like Madagascar Serpent Eagle and Red-breasted Coua.
Day 10: Return to Antananarivo – Fly back to Antananarivo. Afternoon visit to Tsarasaotra Park for wetland birds.
Day 11: Ankarafantsika Reserve – Travel to Ankarafantsika (8 hours). Evening birdwatching near Ampijoroa Forest Station.
Day 12: Departure from Antananarivo – Final morning birdwatching before departure from Antananarivo airport.
